Defibrillators are getting more and more available every year and consequently, sales of defibrillators are increasing. If someone is having a heart attack defibrillators are the first line of defense. If an AED is used during the first several minutes of a cardiac event, the survival rate increases dramatically. Information like this has made quite a few individuals businesses and schools purchase defibrillators.
According to estimates, anywhere from 200K to 350K people die every year from sudden cardiac arrest in the US. Worse than that, about 95% of people who have a heart attack will die from it. Many of these deaths could be avoided if a defibrillator was available. As I said earlier, the survival rate increases if the defibrillators used within the first five minutes.
It should come as no surprise that more people are beginning to consider purchasing defibrillators. Up until now, medical professionals were the only people able to get them. Today, you no longer need a prescription to get a defibrillator.
A defibrillator is not an inexpensive device, so they are not necessarily for everyone. but if your medical history shows you have a tendency toward heart attacks, they’re still recommended. today’s defibrillators are much simpler to use than the old models. These simplified devices are starting to pop up in a lot of public areas.
More than just easier, the defibrillators on the market now are often automated. When you connected them to the patient, they monitor the person’s heart rate and they’ll treat them with the appropriate stimulus only when necessary. They also often come with audio and visual instructions that can walk you through an emergency situation. Children as young as eight years old have been able to use these devices.
Defibrillator sales have also increased because of the availability of implanted devices. Internal defibrillators work similarly to external units but are implanted in the chest and constantly monitor the heart for any problems. Recent technology has made internal defibrillators less invasive to install and many also function as pacemakers.
You can expect defibrillator sales to continue to rise as long as our society faces cardiac arrest as a health problem. Increased availability and lower prices will also fuel this rise.
