Cashing Out Structured Settlements

At the time when a lawsuit is resolved and a large settlement is awarded by the court, the parties involved agree to an amount that will be paid in monthly instalments. The reason for this process is in case the settlement amount is huge (in the millions).

To the payee, who is expecting a large sum, it can be frustrating to have his settlement winnings broken down into small monthly instalments. In such cases, third party companies get involved by offering a large sum of money for rights to your monthly instalments. These companies acquire the rights to the payee’s monthly instalments in exchange for a lump sum amount of cash.

Such companies improve the situation for those who are involved. The payee gets a large sum of money instead of small monthly instalments, and the original payer continues to pay out the small monthly instalment. However, the check is sent to the third party company instead of the original payee.

Now that the large sum of money is paid out in full, the payee is free to spend the money and is not burdened by waiting for monthly instalments. It also works for the payer (who is usually an insurance company) because their cash payout is not affected since they can continue to send their payment in monthly instalments.

Now the payee has many options to choose from on how to spend the money. He/she could think about making an investment such as property or fulfill his/her dream or anyone else’s as well. His/her lifestyle could change dramatically which he/she would not have even considered if he/she were to get a monthly instalment from the structured settlement.

The third party companies truly benefit from this type of financial arrangement. When the company makes a lump sum payment in lieu of the structured monthly instalment, it guarantees a steady flow of money into their portfolio. The third party company then makes an investment and it is paid with the monthly checks. Therefore, the cash flow is never interrupted and their financial investment will be sure to flourish. Many financial institutions seek these types of agreements.

People receiving these monthly payments from a structured settlement often come across advertisements from such financial institutions and third party companies. You should choose to enter into such an agreement only after a careful analysis of your own unique situation, your requirement, and the nature of your settlement.

In case you feel you would rather have a lump sum amount instead of regular monthly checks, you may avail of the services of these companies. It is always advisable to consult a financial professional or an attorney.

The Secrets Of Training A Dog For Agility

Intro & History Dog agility training began as a sport in the UK in the 1970s, and involves successful completion of an obstacle course. It’s a great way to develop a strong bond between pet and owner; it can also help build confidence in timid dogs (and owners). It’s also a great form of exercise as it uses not just the dog’s physicality, but the intelligence as well. The human partner may find that their fitness improves as they are required to do as much work as the dog. Whilst agility training can be done to allow participation in competition, there’s no rule to say it’s not just for a fun time with your dog.

Type of suitable dog Whilst in competition working and highly intelligent breeds such as Border Collies and Labradors tend to excel, basically any dog can be trained for agility. All that is required is that Fido is fit and healthy and is able to obey basic commands such as sit and stay. It’s even possible to begin training Fido as a puppy. However, because of the strain on the joints it’s best to wait until Fido is at least 8 months.

Equipment What is required to begin training is a basic set of equipment: a tunnel; cones for weaving through; something to jump over; an “A” frame; and a table to pause on. This may seem daunting and expensive, but you may fine a club that you can join or a class in your area. However, as training for agility is a gradual process you may find that you can start slowly with one piece of equipment and build up the course gradually. Initially a lead and collar will be necessary until your dog is familiar with everything.

Procedure As with most things that are worth while, the training is a slow gradual process. It would be asking a lot of poor old Fido to be able to see an unfamiliar set of equipment, and then just go for it. Start slowly, perhaps with one obstacle, and some very low jumps. Allow Fido to walk around it and become familiar with it. This way it might be a little less intimidating. Be prepared to demonstrated the obstacle yourself, just until Fido gets the idea. Of course when Fido does it correctly give him lots of praise and treats to encourage him. Never punish him: this is supposed to a fun thing to do.

You are certainly not on your own when it comes to training your dog, be it for agility or for anything else. There is a wealth of information available to help you with pretty much any doggy crisis, be it dealing with toilet matters, incessant barking or just jumping and biting, there is a great deal that you can do to help yourself.

You’re just finishing college with a teacher’s certificate, you don’t have binding ties to England, the US, or Canada, and you are up to an adventure. Or you’ve been teaching unmotivated American students for X years and you’re bored, frustrated, and ready for a challenging change. If this is you, perhaps a stint or a career in international teaching is just what you have been looking for.

Kelly Blackwell is a teacher with a winsome challenge to consider international teaching. In an audio blurb on her website, she shares three advantages to teaching at an international school. First, motivated students who make her teaching experience fun and rewarding. Second, longer holidays. She teaches just 180 or so days a year, giving her time to take in the local exotic culture firsthand. Third, lack of pressure. Schools give time to prepare and often the classrooms are not as crowded as some in the west. The salaries are adequate to provide a good living, giving her finances to travel as well. Kelly also offers a step-by-step guide to acquiring an international teaching job, along with pitfalls to avoid. It might be worth investigating.

Are you interested in learning how to get your resume considered in an international school? The experience of one couple in obtaining an international teaching position in Tanzania. On one website, he suggests the best place to learn about some of the over 4000 international schools is by going to a college’s recruitment fair. The experience he describes sounds something like an auction where prospective teachers have minutes to make their presentation, slightly longer to interview, with the expectation to make a decision before the two days are over. Those seeking employment abroad should attend something like this with personal goals and interests already in mind.

What kinds of jobs are available? Bottom rung teaching jobs, according to some, are those teaching English in ESL schools (English as a second language). But it could be a foot in the door. Some companies hire Americans who know English well to teach employees, especially those working with western clients. Increasingly, short term opportunities arise teaching English for a summer month in schools that are sending their graduates to western universities for post graduate work. Of course, other jobs are available besides teaching English. Some can practically choose their own country. If so, be sure to consider the cost of living when determining if a salary offer for teaching is adequate. The same salary in Japan might be bare subsistence, while in Thailand it would be lucrative.

Reading about other countries and cultures is theory; being there allows one to experience it firsthand. Through an international teaching experience, a teacher can be paid to do what he or she loves and as a bonus, see the world as well.

All You Ever Wanted To Know About Hippies

Hippies originated in the United States around the 1960’s. The term hippie is derived from hipster, and originally referred to beatniks moving into the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Hippies created their own communities, used drugs to expand their conscious, took part in the sexual revolution, and primarily listened to psychedelic rock music.

Hippie Appearances

Hippies saw choosing their own ways and looking for new meanings of life as a way of freeing themselves from society’s restrictions. Hippies saw the way the dress as a form of independent expression and a way to break from the societal norms. Hippies considered the way they dressed as a symbol of respect for individual rights, their style of dress also made it easier to identify each other.

Hippies both of the male and female gender generally wore jeans and had long hair. Both genders also primarily wore sandals or no shoes at all. The men were often bearded, and the women wore little, if any, makeup and did not wear bras. Hippies made most of their clothes such as tie-dyed shirts. Clothing they did not make themselves they normally bought from flea markets and second-hand shops. Hippies were also known for wearing beaded necklaces, headbands, and Native American jewelry.

The Hippie Code Of Transportation

Hippies were known to travel by school busses, VW busses, and hitchhiking. Most hippies would paint psychedelic artwork over the original paint of school busses. They enjoyed traveling in large school busses because it enabled them to travel with a large amount of their friends. Hippies who rode around in VW busses often changed the Volkswagen symbol into a peace sign. Hippies who were more concerned about the environment hitchhiked. They also saw hitchhiking as a way to meet new people through their travels.

Hippies indulged in drugs and hallucinogens. They felt that by doing drugs it allowed them to open their mind and spirit. Most hippies smoked cannabis, or marijuana. Before long hippies began taking hallucinogens such as LSD, psilocybin, and mescaline. Some hippies even took amphetamines and opiates. Most hippies, including the ones that used them, saw amphetamines and opiates as harmful and addictive so they began to scorn them.

Hippies believed in peace and pacifistic ideals. Large groups of hippies participated in non-violent political demonstrations. Hippies went to civil rights marches, performed protests, held anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, and burned draft cards. There were peace demonstration hippies and there were also hippies that preferred anti-authority and street theater demonstrations. The back to land movement, alternative energy, cooperative business enterprises, free press movement, and organic farming were a few political movements that hippies participated in.

Hippies are still around in today’s modern world. People and hippies alike carry on protests and anti-war parades. Festivals that originated in the hippie era are still held to this day. The Burning Man and the Starwood Festival are two of the biggest hippie festivals and are still around. Fashions started by hippies in the 1960’s can still be seen being worn in this day and age. Hippie lifestyle and culture has been around for generations and continues to live on years later.

Does your corporation have a picnic or event each summer? Should they? Even in rocky years a company picnic can further employees morale and show that the company proprietors appreciate their employees endeavors in making the company succeed.

But, how do you go about planning that perfect company picnic? Here are a few tips for making the event outstanding, even on a humble budget.

Location: There are many party locations that specialize in corporate events. A lot of them have their own caterers and this makes thing much easier. But you do not have to go off site. If you have a corporation that runs 24/7 sometimes it is better to have your party on site so that all employees can attend with their families. This is also a huge opportunity to offer tours if your company has a factory, or area that the average individual cannot visit. Many parents really enjoy showing their family where they work and what they do. . Food: food can be as uncomplicated as hamburgers or hotdogs grilled by the management staff to a fully catered event. There are many catering companies that specialize in company picnics and you can plan it all from ribs to dessert. But when the management cares enough to be part of the food preparation it seems to mean a lot to the workers. If you select this though, make sure that you have a lot of help so that everyone still gets an opportunity to have fun at the party.

Entertainment: The entertainment is the easiest part of your planning. And again, it can be simple or excessive depending on your budget.

You can propose Bingo for adults and relay races for children (both with awards). Corn Hole and Volleyball contests are always huge fun. If you are proposing tournaments, make sure to have a sign up table so that there is no delay starting the games.

Inflatable and Interactive games can be a big attraction for kids AND adults and they surely add a flair to the event. There is something about pulling into a parking lot and seeing jumbo moonbounces and slides to get everyone excited.

Many corporations offer casino games for the grownups while the children are playing on the inflatable games. Casino games are played for fun with the achievers winning prizes.

Keep in mind as you are planning entertainment that many things call for a power source so you want to plan your event with power requirements in mind.

Budget: Decide what your budget is going to be in the beginning. This will give you an idea of where you want to start. But, do not despair if your budget is low. Speak to your vendors. Many vendors will be more than happy to support part of your event. Many of the greatest company picnics we have done had sponsored by signs in front of all the inflatables and game tents. This is a great way for everyone involved in your company growth to share some time together.

Just keep in mind while you are making plans that your ultimate goal is to show you value your staff and their families efforts to support your business. Do not make your plans so complicated that you cannot savour the day. A company picnic should be fun for everyone; even the managers!

How to cut that Cuban cigar

Rolling Cuban cigars is a process that goes back hundred of years. Cuban cigars have a very long history. The art of producing Cuban cigars has been passed down from generations to generation and has hardly changed.

Just look at how a Cuban cigar is cut before it is ready to be enjoyed by you and me. If you cut the cigar right, you’ll have a great time but if you mess up, than you are going to be in trouble. There are various ways of cutting your Cuban cigar, it all depends on what your style is and how you want to go about it.

The first thing that you need to do is actually inspect the end that is about to be cut. If you bought a fine quality cigar, you will notice that the end of the head is almost totally closed by a little cap of tobacco leaf that was left over to keep the tobacco fresh and in place. This is really going to be the gauge that you will use in order to cut the cigar properly.

Cut the cap off but leave 25% of it on their, just to be on the safe side. Cuban cigars, although hand rolled, can be easily unwrapped if you make the wrong cut, so take extreme precaution when doing it. Be swift yet gentle and after you execute the proper cut, you should be doing just fine.

So what cutter should you get? I suggest trying out the Snap cutter or also known as the ‘guillotine’. You basically slide your cigar inside it and quickly drop the blade on the outer cap. These are well known and most preferred as you can fit them in you suit jacket and take them on the go with you. Plus the cuts it makes is perfect for all Cuban cigar lovers. This blade was invented somewhat recently and has caught on fairly well with the rest of the Cuban cigar smoking crowd.

Of course, there are many different ways of how to cut a cigar and each person will have to have their own favorite. What you may want to do, however, is keep a variety of different cutters on hand for various occasions. The reason why this is the case is because cigars take on many different shapes and sizes and some cutters will work better for a specific cigar than others. Some people even use scissor type cutters on a regular basis to snip the ends off of the cigars.

What you don’t want to do is use scissors - I highly discourage that although a lot of people do it. Cuban cigars are amazing so you should take that extra step and get some Cuban cigar cutters. If you are not sure, just go down to that Cigar shop around the corner and they’ll help you out. It’s just that easy.

Different Types Of Bar Code Scanners

Posted by kost | Business | Tuesday 20 May 2008 7:04 am
InfoBox OFF
by Howard Brule

Product barcodes are read by barcode scanners in more everyday situations than most of us realize. One of the most familiar uses of this technology is with barcodes on product packages at grocery stores. When we buy something a bar code scanner scans and reads the barcodes on each package. Product information such as product name and unit cost is automatically read and processed by the stock control system. A short description and the amount of each item is automatically added to your bill as each new item is scanned.

When the stock control system tallies a purchase, no matter what is actually sold, the inventory records in the central database are simultaneously modified to record the fact that the item has been purchased. If your inventory information was correctly entered into the system when you set it up, inventory control occurs without the need for manual counting or recording of purchases.

Consider a practical example of using this system. Suppose you own a small business, and are tracking inventory manually. You would typically total up your sales at the end of the day and update your records. This is a time-consuming and unreliable process. The use of a bar code system allows you to automatically update your stock control database each time an item is added or removed.

Such a system can even create unique bar codes for items that do not already have them. For new items a unique bar code is generated by the software, and then a bar code printer is used to print a bar code label that is then affixed to the item.

The three most prevalent kinds of bar code scanners available now are:

1. The Wand Scanner - The most basic type of bar code scanner is the “wand”. This is a pen-type scanner that needs to be kept in contact with the bar code when scanning it. The wand emits a light which is reflected off the bar code and then decoded by the system to identify the item.

The wand system works very well most of the time, and is is the cheapest kind of bar code scanner. As far as cost is concerned, one of these wands will cost 1/10th as much as a laser gun, and about 1/5th as much as a CCD scanner.

But wand scanners have their limitations. In order to get an accurate scan the wand must be held at a fairly precise angle relative to the bar code. It must also be slid across the bar code at a speed that is neither too fast nor too slow. And all wand bar code scanners have a resolution limit. If a bar code has a resolution that is significantly finer than the wand scanner, the scanner will not be able to read it correctly. For example, a 10 mil wand cannot read a 5 mil bar code. It is important to keep this in mind when purchasing a wand scanner.

2. The CCD Scanner - CCD (charged coupled device) technology is the next least expensive bar code scanning system. Like the wand scanner, CCD readers must be in direct contact with the bar code label in order to read it. But unlike the wand, there is no need to move the device across the label. The operator simply presses the reader against the label and pulls the trigger. The bar code is then photographed, digitized and decoded by the system.

Of the various types of bar code scanners, CCD readers are the easiest to use, and are available in widths from about 2 inches to 4 inches. A CCD reader is about four times the cost of a wand, but only about one third the cost of a laser scanner.

Fixed Focus Optics, or FFO, is another interesting new technology that resembles CCD. These scanners can read bar codes from 20 inches away because they don’t require contact with the bar code. They also have the ability to read two-dimensional bar codes, which are being implemented in more installations.

3. The Laser Scanner - Laser scanners use a beam of light to rapidly scan across the bar code label. This means the scanner itself remains stationary, and there is no need for direct contact with the bar code label. Scanning is automatic in the sense that the scanning action is initiated when an object is held in front of it.

This system is popular in many different settings. For example, since scanning is done rapidly, laser scanners can be embedded right within conveyor systems. As objects pass quickly by they are scanned and recorded. In retail stores the check out person simply moves objects over the scanner to activate the scanning action. This kind of system is fast enough to keep up with a clerk just taking objects from one side of the scanner and sliding them to the other side. Such a system is much faster and much more accurate than any of the popular alternatives currently available.

When choosing a bar code scanner and an inventory control system, it is important to take into consideration the ability to adapt new scanning technologies to your system as they become available. This will allow you to keep your system updated without having to upgrade or replace the entire system in the future.

How Liquid Dancing Came To Be

by Chris Channing

Liquid dancing is a popular dance technique that incorporates many different styles of other dance techniques. It has been known to include moves such as “the robot,” borrow moves from funk, and even become as inspiring as the interpretation dance style that has become so popular.

It has long been debated as to what exactly liquid dancing is. Many claim that it is just other styles of dances with a few tricks mixed in. Others say that the dance type is a style in all its own, as it originates from the club era and has true roots in dancing history. Either way, the dancing style is defined as borrowing moves from other styles, so in effect both sides of the debate could be true.

The overall concept in liquid dancing is to create a rhythmic sense of flow with the hands in body. It is important to note that such movements need to be in rhythm, or true liquid dancing experts claim that the dance is being performed incorrectly. Often the liquid dancer in question choreographs the moves with the music playing, either freestyle or from a previous training session.

Popular moves in the liquid dancing technique include the techniques named “builds,” “waves,” and “traces.” The build is something like you’d see from a mime- it involves interacting with an object that is imaginary, yet the interaction is made to be believable. Waves and traces both use the hands to simulate fluid movements- whether it be outlining one’s own body or simulating waves with the arms and hands.

A vastly popular extension of the liquid dancing technique is to use glowsticks to give a truly psychedelic and “trippy” effect for trance goers. Glowsticking, as it is called, uses light emitting devices often held in the hands to help in the process of expressing the motions that makeup that liquid dance moves. Glowsticks draw more attention, attract more appeal, and are cheap ornaments to a truly great dancing style. It should be noted, however, that clubs have largely banned the item due to misuse, injury, and other factors.

Getting tips and tricks into breaking the learning curve to liquid dancing is best learned through online video sites that cater to the dancing styles mentioned previously. Such moves are entirely visual- meaning they can’t always be duplicated through reading about such moves in a book or through online resources. Nevertheless, the art of liquid dancing is much about one’s own source of movement, artistic style, and sense of mobility. Therefore, it is often better to diversify one’s mindset by being as creative and independent on the subject as possible.

In Conclusion

Raves, parties, and clubs just wouldn’t be complete without the liquid dancing techniques that have become a part of common dance routines. Thus, it’s important to learn such techniques to incorporate them into one’s sense of dancing style. This can better diversify one’s tastes, artistic direction, and overall create a better appeal to others. But before creativity takes over one’s dancing routine, make sure that clubs and the like approve of some gear such as glowsticks or other light emitting devices first.
