Perhaps the most well-known words from the Bible are the “Lord’s Prayer.” Versions of the prayer occur in both the “The Sermon On The Mount” in Matthew 6:9-13 and “the Sermon on the Plain” in Luke 11:1-4. Although it is not immediately obvious to most people who pray this prayer, this prayer is deeply concerned with economic issues.

Even though every Christian church uses the Lord’s Prayer, following Matthew’s version rather than Luke’s, there are variations in the exact wording.

Some churches use the archaic English, “thy” and “thine.” Protestant churches usually end the prayer with the words, “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory.” Roman Catholics do not recite this ending.

The most critical vocabulary difference is whether a church refers to “debts,” “trespasses,” or “sins.”

When Jesus taught his followers to pray for daily bread and forgiveness of debts, it was more than a prayer for spiritual sustenance and forgiveness of sins. He was first of all referring to real bread and real debts.

The fundamental meaning of the Greek word for “debts” is financial. The prayer makes the need for real bread and payment of debt explicit. This intention is consistent with Jesus’ concern for the poor and dispossessed of his society.

The most important belief expressed in the prayer is that the time will come when God will establish God’s rule on earth, in the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God does not refer to Heaven. It refers to God’s rule on earth, when God will end oppression, poverty, and suffering on earth. This is clear in the language, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

A prayer with the words: “Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” loses the economic foundation of the prayer when “bread” and “debt” become spiritual metaphors, with no connection to real food and economic debt.

Jesus spoke to people who did not think of bread and debt as metaphors. The people Jesus addressed were underfed and overtaxed. Much of the misery of the peasants and beggars in Palestine resulted from debt. Many of the peasant farmers were deeply in debt because they had to pay heavy taxes to the ruling class who owned the land. The king and the elite claimed proprietary rights to the land and whatever the peasants grew on the land. In addition, many of the beggars were former peasants who had been forced off the land because they could not pay their debts.

Throughout the gospels, Jesus spoke about the real human needs of people in a society divided between the haves and the have-nots. He saw the vast gap between the rich and the poor, and criticized the rich for their exploitation and oppression of the poor. He also condemned a religious system which excluded whole categories of people from God’s blessing, by labeling them as “unclean.”

He saw firsthand the extent of hunger, poverty, sickness, and suffering endured by most of the population. He saw how the rich landowners grew rich at the expense of the poor. He saw people who were homeless because they had been driven off their land by high rents and taxes. He saw people living in poverty because the largest percentage of what they grew or made or caught was confiscated by taxes. He knew what it was to live under Roman occupation, where Roman soldiers could force people to do almost anything. He saw how the Temple system collaborated with the Roman occupiers to bleed the people of their money and their power.

It is also true that Matthew’s version of the Lord’s Prayer preserves an Aramaic idiom. Aramaic writings show that the language of “debt” and “debtors” was used regularly for “sin” and “sinners.” Jesus spoke Aramaic and clearly intended that the word “debts” in the prayer refer to both money debts and sins.

In Luke, the prayer loses the double meaning of the word, “debts.” Instead, Luke uses the word “sin” rather than “debt.” This word choice loses the financial reality behind the metaphor and obscures the underlying concern with real bread and real debts.

To pray as Jesus intended, Christians need to retrieve the original meanings of words that have been treated as spiritual metaphors. The cost of daily bread is especially significant in an era of global food shortages and rising prices for basic staples such as wheat, rice, and corn. And forgiveness of debts has particular meaning for those facing foreclosure and bankruptcy because of debts they cannot repay.

Jesus intended his words to refer to suffering and injustice in his own society. This prayer for bread and debts referred to real bread and forgiveness of real financial debts.

Hippies originated in the United States around the 1960’s. The term hippie is derived from hipster, and originally referred to beatniks moving into the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco. Hippies created their own communities, used drugs to expand their conscious, took part in the sexual revolution, and primarily listened to psychedelic rock music.

Hippie Appearances

Hippies saw choosing their own ways and looking for new meanings of life as a way of freeing themselves from society’s restrictions. Hippies saw the way the dress as a form of independent expression and a way to break from the societal norms. Hippies considered the way they dressed as a symbol of respect for individual rights, their style of dress also made it easier to identify each other.

Hippies both of the male and female gender generally wore jeans and had long hair. Both genders also primarily wore sandals or no shoes at all. The men were often bearded, and the women wore little, if any, makeup and did not wear bras. Hippies made most of their clothes such as tie-dyed shirts. Clothing they did not make themselves they normally bought from flea markets and second-hand shops. Hippies were also known for wearing beaded necklaces, headbands, and Native American jewelry.

The Hippie Code Of Transportation

Hippies were known to travel by school busses, VW busses, and hitchhiking. Most hippies would paint psychedelic artwork over the original paint of school busses. They enjoyed traveling in large school busses because it enabled them to travel with a large amount of their friends. Hippies who rode around in VW busses often changed the Volkswagen symbol into a peace sign. Hippies who were more concerned about the environment hitchhiked. They also saw hitchhiking as a way to meet new people through their travels.

Hippies indulged in drugs and hallucinogens. They felt that by doing drugs it allowed them to open their mind and spirit. Most hippies smoked cannabis, or marijuana. Before long hippies began taking hallucinogens such as LSD, psilocybin, and mescaline. Some hippies even took amphetamines and opiates. Most hippies, including the ones that used them, saw amphetamines and opiates as harmful and addictive so they began to scorn them.

Hippies believed in peace and pacifistic ideals. Large groups of hippies participated in non-violent political demonstrations. Hippies went to civil rights marches, performed protests, held anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, and burned draft cards. There were peace demonstration hippies and there were also hippies that preferred anti-authority and street theater demonstrations. The back to land movement, alternative energy, cooperative business enterprises, free press movement, and organic farming were a few political movements that hippies participated in.

Hippies are still around in today’s modern world. People and hippies alike carry on protests and anti-war parades. Festivals that originated in the hippie era are still held to this day. The Burning Man and the Starwood Festival are two of the biggest hippie festivals and are still around. Fashions started by hippies in the 1960’s can still be seen being worn in this day and age. Hippie lifestyle and culture has been around for generations and continues to live on years later.

Have you ever heard of a phrase called “The Abandoned Horses”? Do you know what it means? “Abandoned Horse” is a phrase which is used to describe horses which is considered no longer useful by its owners. Some horse owners are either dispassionate or they might not be capable in providing proper care for their horses. Due to the price hike of hay and grains, many horse owners are experiencing the economic pinch.

So what happens to all these neglected horses? Throughout the United States, horse rescue agencies are working hard trying to save as many of these animals as they can, and are struggling to raise funds to provide food and care for them. Although there are many horse rescue agencies, the fact is that they do not begin to meet the needs of the huge number of unwanted horses. The economy and rising costs of caring for rescued horses are causing many rescues to close their doors. As more rescues are forced to close, the number of horses in need increase rapidly. Add the 100,000 horses that will be saved from slaughter in 2008 and you have a real nightmare.

Latest survey states that, last year more than 100,000 horses from United States were slaughtered and exported to other countries for human consumption. And latest statistics shows that, nearly 93% of 100,000 horses are healthy, but still they are slaughtered.

So as a horse owner what can you do to solve this problem? First you must discover some proper ways to take care of your horse by providing the best you can even though you are financially weak. And one thing, when you are not in a situation to take proper care of your horse, find a good rescue agency in your area and admit your horse, so that they can take care or your horse.

Even though you don’t own a horse, dedicate your time in rescuing some of the horses which are in need around you. This would be one of the greatest thing you can do to offer a second life for those abandoned animals. If you are not in a position to help physically, then you can help rescues economically by joining some welknown horse rescue associations.

So, we people must become aware of this social issue and help to reduce the plight of the unwanted horses.

About the Author:
Nancy swigart is a great lover of horses and she has been a nurse for 35 years. She currently operates a horse rescue agency, www.sponsorahorse.org. She feels great in rescuing and rehabilitating neglected, abused, and abandoned horses.

The choice of wedding rings a couple makes has great significance. This should not be rushed as they will wear these rings all the time they are married. Do not rush this, particularly if you are interested in having someone design a wedding ring for you. The location of your nearest jeweler who stocks wedding rings could be found on the Internet. Many people, however, make the mistake of going to a jewelry store in a mall.

If you are lucky you might find enough variety but these stores often only carry a small selection of rings. It is in your best interest to find a jeweler that specializes so you will have enough styles and materials to choose from. Of course it should go without saying that the wedding ring you choose must complement the engagement ring that your partner is wearing.

Often, wedding rings chosen by the couple are more beautiful than the engagement ring, and this should not happen; some rings have been made to complement each other and these should be the type you seek. If this is not possible you will need to try on as many wedding bands as you can to see how they look when positioned next to the engagement ring.

The most commonly sought after metals for rings are White Gold, Platinum, Titanium, Yellow Gold and Rose Gold, although increasing numbers of couples are choosing the longer lasting platinum over the white gold or titanium options. Obviously, if you’re after a yellor or rose colored ring, you’ll opt for yellow gold or rose gold, though.

Whilst it might not seem that important, the wedding rings will probably need to be adjusted,so make sure that you get professionally sized instead of making a guess. You want to be sure the ring will fit correctly and this will prevent it from being too tight or too loose and slipping off. Of course, if you have someone design a wedding ring for you, these problems should be taken care of as the ring is designed and made specifically for you.

The jeweler should be given plenty of time to complete this task because there may be others he is adjusting rings for. Make certain that you give plenty of time before your wedding day for both choosing and for adjustments to be made. Choosing wedding bands you will both like and that match the engagement ring may take some time. Allow for this as it is not uncommon for couples to choose in haste and then regret their decision later.

There isn’t a stronger symbol of two people’s love than the wedding ring. Perhaps this is why they are used in so many cultures around the world.

Each night the national news is reporting on the various economic disasters that are occurring in the American economy. Fortunately, there is an incredibly easy way for us Americans to support our own economy and our own friends and neighbors. Soy candles are produced by companies based in the United States and sold by companies based in the United States. This makes the process of buying American made candles extremely easy!

The American farmer plants dried soybeans as seeds each spring. Then when the growing season is finished, the American farmer will harvest the ripe soybeans. After transporting the crop of soybeans to a processing plant, the oil is extracted from the meat of the soybean through crushing the bean. The soy oil is then passed through a partial hydrogenation process which transforms it into the soy wax that is used to make candles. Soy wax is incredibly soft and creamy in texture.

Container candles are the best use for pure soy wax since it is so soft. Pillar and taper candles can not be made from soy wax alone because of this unique property. Since the wax is so soft, the candle would not stand or stay in its original form while burning. If you do find any pillar candle or taper candle that claims it is a soy candle, there is another ingredient which has been blended with the soy wax to make it withstand the burning process without becoming a complete formless blob. Very commonly, this additive is paraffin wax. However, there are other waxes which can be used that are completely natural and renewable such as palm wax, castor bean wax, candelilla, rice bran and jojoba oil. Often these other waxes (except paraffin - a petroleum based product) are labeled as “vegetable waxes”.

All natural soy candles with no fragrance or dye are non-toxic so are deemed to be safe for both humans and pets. The fragrance and dye may also be all natural and non-toxic. The soy candle will burn at a cooler temperature thus allowing it to burn approximately 20% to 30% longer than a comparable paraffin wax candle. Another health benefit of soy revolves around the soot produced by the burning candle. Soy candles will produce soot, but it typically is white in color and quite often is not noticeable by the naked eye. Black soot, so commonly produced by paraffin wax candles, can also be produced by soy candles. However, it is usually minuscule amounts and due to some additive to the soy candle such as the fragrance, dye or paraffin wax.

Soy wax is famous for accepting any fragrance that is added to it with incredible ease. Pound for pound, soy wax can hold more scent than paraffin wax. This means that your unlit soy candle will throw scent just as well as the burning soy candle, potentially filling your entire room with delicious fragrance. The fragrance is evenly distributed throughout the candle, so the scent at the end is the same as at the beginning.

Let’s combat all of the bad American economic news by purchasing American made soy candles. Support the American farmer, wax manufacturer, and candle makers who are your friends and neighbors by buying the soy candle. In addition to being a healthy contribution to the American economy, soy wax candles are also a healthy, natural alternative to the paraffin wax candles.

About the Author:
Nancy Rivers is a candle lover who was raised on an American farm and owns Joyous Candle. All natural soy candles, including a wide variety of scented soy candles, are available with free shipping on orders over $85.

Since almost everyone nowadays has a mobile phone, telephone dating services are growing in their popularity. The mobile phone companies offer these services not only in the United States but also all over the world including Europe, Australia and Asia. More and more people are turning to the telephone dating service to help them find good quality dates.

In fact, the mobile phone companies are the ones that host this type of dating service. You can start by registering a screen name and then create your profile. Afterwards, your profile is added to an existing database that other members also access. A list of names is sent to you once you have typed in keywords describing the type of person you might feel comfortable in dating.

Phone numbers are not given out to other members. The user name that you have set up is the only identifying information that shows on your mobile phone. This allows people to chat and not feel like their privacy will be compromised. Once you have determined that you like the person whom you are chatting with, at that time, it is your choice if you wish to exchange mobile numbers and even consider setting up a date.

Telephone dating agencies hit the market about ten years ago. Often times you would see their advertisements on TV or in the yellow pages. Then you would call a number and leave a message describing yourself. Other people could then dial that number and listen to all of the messages that were left. Then if you liked someone you were able to give him or her a message in his or her personal voice mailbox. It was kind of like sending emails back and forth to each other except it was by voice messages.

Then the development of video dating agencies came to life. Now you can make videos instead of just leaving voice messages. Most find video dating a much better option because now they can see what the other person looks like. Physical attraction is still the number one factor in choosing a new partner.

Many people today are turning to the many types of dating agencies out there to help them find their soul mates. It is much more convenient and easier to meet people through these services than the traditional method of being fixed up or finding someone at the bar.

So, if this is something that interests you then pick up your mobile phone and contact one of your local dating services. You can begin today to meet someone new by calling him/her or sending him or her a message. Although you may connect with someone over the phone but it is not a guarantee that this person is your soul mate. You will need to meet in person before making any conclusions.

You still have to exercise caution when speaking with somebody that you really don’t know. Take the necessary steps to be safe and have fun at the same time. Happy dating!
